Christian ministry summer happenings
Spring semester may be almost over, but unlike classes, ministry doesn't stop at semester breaks—it just takes different forms. While most take their ministries to their homes or co-ops for the summer, many students will remain in Houghton for at least part of the summer, and several of the Christian groups will be continuing with Bible studies and fellowship opportunities. His House Christian Fellowship has already announced that they will continue to meet on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Fisher 129. Others, like Campus Crusade for Christ, will also be meeting together for weekly Bible study and fellowship—if you plan to be up here for all or some of break, be sure to get connected somewhere!
Other students will be ministering internationally: Several students from InterVarsity Christian Fellowship will be encountering urban poverty in Mexico City from June 16 through July 31. The purpose of this trip is to become immersed in the community to serve alongside the poor, being exposed to and challenged by the issues facing urban slums. Overseas, students from His House will be travelling to Rostock, Germany from May 12 through May 27, and will be teaching English and religion in the schools of a city of 200,000 people where only one percent go to church.
In addition, a handful of Campus Crusade for Christ students will be participating in evangelistic "Summer Projects" around the world. Two students will be ministering in the context of seasonal jobs, one in Vail, Colorado from May 20 to August 8, the other in Grand Traverse Bay, Mich. from June 13 to August 8. Another student will be leading high school students on backpacking trips in Grand Teton National Park from June 30 to July 20. Yet another will be travelling to Wellington, New Zealand to minister to local college students through the "Student Life" movement there, from June 28 to August 11.
Be sure to be praying about these ministries throughout the summer.
