Through God's filter
We live in a culture that is constantly throwing information at us. Everywhere we go, we see television, newspapers, and the Internet ablaze with the latest local and world news. We struggle to stay above the surface as it all rushes by, and many times it seems we don't have enough time to break apart the meat from the bones, so to speak. While a great source for news, secular media is just that: secular.
Jesus said in Matthew 10:16 that we are "like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves."(NIV) We must interpret everything the world has to offer with a grain of salt. It is vital that we as Christians figure into the equation what Scripture has to say about what is going on around us. God gave us His Word to help us live our lives in accordance with His will. Therefore, does it not seem reasonable to put everything we see, hear, and read through that filter?
My hope and prayer is that this section will serve you in a number of ways. First, this section is designed so as to highlight political, social, and economic topics from a Christian perspective. In addition, there are many issues within the body of Christ that are points of debate. Christian apologetics will also be featured in this area of this newspaper. Finally, this is a great means for you to give us your feedback, as well as give your opinion on a topic of interest. Whether you have a belief in Christ personally, or simply have an opinion on anything happening in the world today, this is the place to see what other Christians think.
It is with great excitement that I share this with you. Much prayer and thought has gone into this newspaper, and I believe it will be a great voice on our campus. Enjoy reading, and God bless!
